At long last! I have photographic proof that I really did make my Toph Bei Fong costume from Avatar: The Last Airbender! WOOT!
This was a costume that I made only very quickly for Manifest 2010 as a Friday costume. Then it was worn for Melbourne Armageddon 2010 in a group with the most awesome people ever (read: My Cumberbatch Family) as the almighty Cheese Nation, where it won Best Group. XD We took an awesome drive to Inverloch on the Victorian coastline, where we took amazing photographs on the beautiful cliffs, beaches and surrounding areas. It was beautiful, but so cold and windy! I would have photoshopped my terrible flyaways out, but there was too much work to be done!
The outfit was made of very breathable poplin, lined numerous times to get the proper weight, and the tunic was made of a lovely homespun cotton with multiple colors woven into it for a more accurate feel. The best and worst part about this costume? The contact lenses! I will have you note, I have in no way photoshopped my eyes at all! I wore blind-eye lenses, which are screened on the front to cloud your retina and pupil and give you the proper 'misted-over-blind' look. Trouble is - it really does make you blind! Well, not so much, but because I couldn't get them in prescription (and I have pretty terrible eyesight), coupled with the obscurity, I was virtually incapacitated. I had to have my group lead me around everywhere! Well... at least I was in character! XD'''''
